Going Green Has Made Me a Treekiller!
It's true. I thought I was being all noble taking the bus home from work every day when I've a perfectly decent little gas guzzler sitting in the garage. It's work, taking the bus in LA. Eight miles requires two buses and almost an hour of travel time, not including the walk to and from the stops.
But the transfer point between my two buses is right in front of a bookstore. And the wait time allows me just enough spare time to go in and check out the new book table. And buy a few books. Sure, bus fare is cheaper than gas, but the resultant book buying is killing me. And, I'm a tree killer. :o(

This book quandry is something I think about all the time! New, used, library, supporting authors, do I get an ereader, but then, more computery staring, and EMFs!
And aspiring to publish one, too, for a whole new set of tree killing!
I have a friend who published a book and somehow she was able to have the recycled content high or something like that, but I think she got less money. If I got published, I would want it to be on hemp!
Thank goodness for busses though, and good for you to take one in LA. I know that's hard.
From someone who washed diapers for both of her kids, I salute you.
It is possible for me to go by bus to work, but then I first have to walk 35 minutes to get to the bus stop and change bus too en route. And coming back from work, during accounting busy season, when I could stay till all hours of the night, well, I'm a little scared.
I know, excuses, excuses. Which is why, to make up for it, when I don't work outside (10 months out of 12), I never leave the house. :-)
No, Sherry, I salute you. Washing diapers! When your kids are older and you need to guilt them into doing something, you can say not just that you gave birth to them and changed their diapers, but that you washed them.
Changing diapers is a very effective Tool of Guilt Inducement (ToGI). I know, because I changed my sister's diapers. Once she'd changed a few diapers, "But I changed your diapers!" became a magical phrase in my arsenal to get her to do things she didn't necessarily want to do.
The sad thing about my bus rout is, theoretically, it should be a breeze. The drive takes less than 10 minutes. But this is LA :(
However, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the other upside of bus travel--guaranteed reading time. :)
